What's New on this site?

January 16, 2011

I added a link to Robin Hopper's blog on the Links to Potters and Suppliers page.

December, 31, 2011

I added a few pages of my students creating Clay Pyggs, Realistic Tree Paintings and Triangle Cat Paintings.

August 18, 2011

I posted a few pictures of variations on the Floating Blue Base glaze with different colorants in them. These glazes do not resemble Floating Blue, but they are variegated and interesting.

August 13, 2011

I created a glaze I call Post's Floating Blue while I was experimenting with colorants in a series of line blends. It looks best on brown clays at cone 6. I also posted three new Ian Currie Grid glaze experiments.

July 4, 2011

A link to iron red glazes fired at cone 10 electric in oxidation can be found on the Trouble Shooting Iron Red Glazes of this site. There is a link to Conor McLean's work as an apprentice with Dan Weaver in developing these glazes in a small electric kiln.

April 10, 2011

An essay that I wrote to clayart has been included in a book by Nils Lou called The Art of Play. You can read about it here.

March 20, 2011

I added a link on my links page to Kenneth Baskin's website. He makes mechanical looking sculptures from clay that look like metal artifacts.

January 20, 2011

I fired an Ian Currie grid of Glossy Base 1, a glaze from Mastering Cone 6 Glazes by John Hesselberth and Ron Roy. Then I tested Glaze 17 from this grid with 9 different colorants yielding 45 different color variations.

December 28, 2010

I added a link to John Tilton's site on my links page.

December 26, 2010

Post's Jun, a thick white glaze that looks good over irony clay bodies is my latest new glaze.

I sponged some Amaco, Sax and Duncan lowfire glazes over my 244 Fat White and over Pete's Tomato Red #13 w/spodumene. I fired these sponged on lowfire glazes to cone 6 and they didn't run.

I also fired a copper carbonate variation of the 244 Fat White Base trying to recreate a subtle green glaze I stumbled across by accident a while ago.

December 16, 2010

I've added a new glaze recipe to the site. It's Post's 244, a fat magnesium white glaze at cone 6. Mel Jacobson's use of Rhodes 32 glaze in his gas kiln inspired me to attempt creating a fat white in my electric kiln at cone 6.

December 13, 2010

I've finished moving quite a few new painting lessons from my other sites over to this one.

December 10, 2010

I've updated the look of my site and brought back the test tile pages. I've also added a section about trouble shooting iron red glazes in electric kilns. There are also links to the schools I teach at as well as links to my Twitter page and YouTube channel.
