Students are painting still life flowers based on the art of Henri Matisse. Matisse used bright colors at a time when most paintings were muted and dark. His colors seemed so bright to the public that he was dubbed a "Fauvist" - French for "wild beast". Our students are learning how to mix their own bright colors using hues mixed with white to make tints. A tint is bright - made of mostly white. When we buy paint at Home Depot, they add hues to a gallon of white creating a tint.
