Students in 6th grade created layered landscapes. Layering is a method of placing one object in front of another to create a sense of depth. The objects at the bottom of the picture read as closer to us than the objects at the top. This idea came into prominence with perspective during the Renaissance. The painter David Hockney did some research on this and discovered that as telescopes and microscope lenses were being invented, artists were using these high tech tools to layout their paintings.
