Robot Slip Tiles

This project was all about working with positive and negative shapes. To make these tiles, the kids had to cut out paper shapes and use them as stencils on a wet clay slab. The second image shows how the kids worked out the spacing and imagery for their robots by cutting white pieces of paper and arranging them on top of a black sheet of construction paper.

White liquid clay called slip was dabbed over the top and the paper shapes were pulled off. The terra cotta colors you see in these tiles are where the paper shapes were placed.
