Egyptian Hippos

Just like the jackals, this lesson has its roots in the ancient Egyptian culture. Hippos were a fertility symbol. The kids created their clay hippos by making an egg form for the body and then attatching a pear shaped head. Giving kids food descriptions of the forms they are getting ready to make helps them to visualize what they need to do.

The little bat guy at the bottom of this page was created by Adam when he finished his hippo. Sometimes kids just play when they make things, if those things turn out well, I fire their extra little creations for them.

The second image down is a famous copper blue hippo created by the ancient Egyptians that I show the kids as part of my teaching presentation.
